26 January 1950 marks the day on which the Indian constitution entered into force ensuring the end of the government of Indian act (1935). Since then, this honorable day is known as the Republic Day.Republic Day is a national holiday in India and is celebrated every year on 26th January with patriot feelings and cheer.

The constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950 although it was acquired by the constituent assembly of India on 26 November 1949 ending the country's slavery and establishing the start of an independent India. On 26 January 1930, the national Congress had succeeded in signifying the declaration of Indian Independence as an opposition to the British reign and this is the reason that 26 January was chosen as the Republic Day in the year 1950.

India celebrates three national holidays - Gandhi Jayanti, Independence day and Republic Day.

Mahatma Gandhi marsheled the Indian people civil disobedience movement, non violent strikes and Independence movement after which India confirmed its independence on 15 August 1947, known as Independence Day. Afterwards Indian Independence Act was passed by the United Kingdom according to which the British India was to be divided into two independent republics: India and Pakistan. India got its freedom on 15 August 1947 being a constitutional Empire where Lord Earl Mountbatten was the governor general and George vi was the head of state. Even though the country had no constitution of its own, rules and laws were based on the Government of India Act 1935. A constituent committee was scheduled on 28 August 1947, to draft and create a constitution with a chairman, Dr. B R Ambedkar. The committee prepared on draft constitution and on 4 November 1947 the draft was submitted to the assembly. The Assembly met on open sessions for the next 2 years, 11 months and 18 days before the adaptation of the constitution. On 24 January 1952 handwritten copies of the Constitution were signed by the 308 members of the constitution committee with consideration. After 2 days, this constitution became permanent
